07.06c: Underwater Ball (Refreshments Table)

Jiga stares at the rose, surprised and speechless for a moment before reaching out to take it from Rogbar. "Thank you Rogbar, it's beautiful. But I think I should pass on the...tour for now. The Ball itself holds more than enough intrigue to keep me entertained for the evening. Though your tale did sound like quite the ordeal, if you'd care to finish it." Jiga then nods to the Raven and extends a hand while introducing herself.

Rogbar will go into it... He will make dashing gestures for the fights and will attempt to woo Jiga at appropriate parts.

The short of it: There was a princess of Rebma, a young dressmaker, Priscilla. She was most beautiful and they had love at first sight. At least, Rogbar did, and she was a little cold and needed convincing. So, Rogbar made many grand gestures including fighting the guards, and a spectacular high-wire walk over the docks which ended with Rogbar falling into a crab tank and causing a bit of damage to the docks themselves. Priscilla was so embarrassed that Ashara exiled Rogbar to protect the princess. It was "a truly amazing and dramatic failure of love."

On the plus side, the fisherman let Rogbar keep any crabs that were attached to him.

Jiga listens to the tale, a bit disbelieving of the grandiose and somewhat foolhardy attempts to win the princess' affections. Jiga is aware of his attempt to woo her but is careful not to react. While she's certainly amused by the account and Rogbar's dramatic telling of it, Rogbar's purported demonstrations of his love have her a bit perplexed. She claps approvingly at the end of his tale but says "I don't see how all of those antics were supposed to gain you this girl's favor. It seems foolish to risk so much for someone you didn't even know. Indeed it was if it got you exiled from Rebma with nothing but a good story to tell for your trouble."

Rogbar blinks... and flattens his ears. "But... love... One has to put true passion into love in order to get an equal amount out. Love does not fall into one's lap... It is essential that a true lover push themselves. It is not like the battlefield. One must do showy things in love."

Jiga still looks skeptical. "Well, I'll defer to your expertise then. Admittedly I have little experience." She glances over in Lyra and Rasanam's direction at that. "But I don't think it always has to be so...dramatic. Sometimes, I think, love is just something that happens." She looks a bit flustered and ruffles her feathers a bit. She clearly looks like she has more to say on the matter but decides against it, deciding to sample the food off her plate instead.

"To be fair to Rogbar," Fjolnir hops back onto Jiga's shoulder, "dramatic displays are a fairly common method for wooing a potential mate. Consider, for example, the Jubjub bird, whose display dance requires fire, lightning, and ice, and are known to deliberately start forest fires in the dead of winter, in hopes of setting up the right conditions. Or..." If not stopped, Fjolnir will cheerfully rattle on with dry, overly-technical descriptions of some of the more ludicrous animals to inhabit the fantasy setting he came from.

For the most part, Asai seems to have been content to listen, watch, and (politely and neatly) scarf down a surprising quantity of food - apparently finishing touches on the illusion made for a hungry spellcaster. After a few bizarre descriptions on Fjolnir's part, she steps in when he pauses for a breath and subject change. "Do keep in mind, Jiga, that the mantra of cats - at least in every shadow with a clear feline analogue that I've seen, including my own home shadow - seems to be 'I meant to do that.' Add a personal flair for the dramatic into that, and well..." She flicks her ears in Rogbar's direction, but it's fairly clear she's including herself in that category.

"Jiga... did you already have someone?" Rogbar asks. "If so, I do not wish to intrude. Unless he's a jerk..." He will hesitate... then slowly add, "she's a jerk?"

Jiga seems a bit uncomfortable as she regards Rogbar. "No, I'm not in a relationship." Without a suitable topic to steer the conversation to, she simply returns to cleaning her plate of the remaining food with determination.

"Mi'lady, this is no place for a pained heart." Rogbar flattens his ears, addressing Jiga. "I know a few places here to restore the spirit. Places of beauty and a short time having you wants catered to. Please allow me to do this for you. Just to help one in need."

His tone changes completely as he talks. This is an offer of 'chocolate and an hour at a spa' and clearly not a date. Apparently, he has some tact, once you get him out of the dating zone.
