07.06a: Underwater Ball (Dance Floor 1)

Post by Rasanam »

((Continued from here.))

Rasanam leads Lyra out onto the dance floor, the musicians matching his movement with a slow waltz, stately and elegant.

He pauses a moment after Lyra's comment on Kizak, until the slow spin of the dance brings the water dragon into his view. "The first dragon we've seen outside of our home? Yes, of course we'll have to talk to him!" ((Except, of course, that he's not the first - but then, this isn't exactly an entirely private conversation.))

((Edited due to arg. Misremembered something - one of the guild leaders hadn't been at the dinner the previous day, but that was the mage guild leader, who also isn't at the ball. At least yet.))

Conversation dies as Lyra focuses more on the moment, pushing thoughts of politics and power struggles out of her thoughts, determined to make this moment theirs. She smiles at Rasanam, following his lead as their movements put the orchestra's efforts to good use. When the song draws to its end, their solo steps bring them together to end with an elegant dip, Lyra's wings dusting the floor like a cape.

As Rasanam pulls her up from the maneuver, Lyra pulls close and kisses her husband before asking "Well, should we continue showing these curmudgeons how to dance or see about greeting some of our fellow guests?"

Rasanam returns the kiss and smiles, then replies, "Oh, I'm sure we'll have plenty more opportunity for the former. For now, we can let someone else have the spotlight." The pair of them head off the dance floor towards the nearest wall... and if anyone thinks it's coincidence that their path takes them right to Kizak, that person is seriously underestimating the abilities of even amber rank warfare.

((Yes, warfare is generally the right stat for arranging your dance to end up where you want. Or to pull off - or avoid - a particular partner swap in the middle of the dance floor. Or, etc.))

((Also, this thread is now open to whoever next takes to the dance floor.))

Morgana heads onto the dance-floor, wearing a wonderful yellow dress that somehow manages to compliment both her skin-tone and her features. Her hair is braided for the first time in ages, looking almost presentable. From the entry, (air-breathers enter a floor above the dancefloor) a well-dressed ogre spots her, and their gazes meet. As Grind descends to the floor, there is a subtle shift in the music...

Tale as old as time,
True as is might be,
Barely even friends,
Monsters ‘till the end,
but meet happily.

Neither one will change,
Both large to say the least
Others are quite scared,
No one is prepared,
Beauty* and the Beast.

This is proceeded by Grind unceremoniously tripping over Morgana's dress while trying to dance... Thankfully, she laughs and gives him a hug, although most of the other dancers have stopped and look on in horror**.
____________
*: Warning: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
**: Actually, worse than horror, scandal!

Alys leads Aibne out onto the dance floor, nodding politely to Grind and Morgana, but otherwise ignoring them - as if a clumsy ogre were a perfectly normal thing to see there and not worth stopping for.

Rogbar gives both Aibne and Grind a 'thumbs up' as he passes through.

Grind has recovered, and is going a bit slower this time. Morgana pacing him through a few really basic steps. the other dance participants are staying out of the potential 'blast zone'.

Lyra and Rasanam return from their meeting and Lyra promptly leads her husband back to the dance floor. She smiles seeing that the party is now in full swing, noting Morgana's dance partner. "Hopefully that will work out well. After that whole misunderstanding, maybe I could look into some sort of guide/information service. Newcomers could get assistance with acclimating to the place and have their questions answered without any pressure. Not everyone who arrives here is going to have the guided tour that we did."

As the normal dance resumes and people start simply making room for the ogres instead of stopping and staring, Alys leads Aibne back out towards where they had started from.

Rasanam lets Lyra lead this dance, and nods in response to her suggestion of a guide service for new arrivals. "That does seem like a good idea, yes. Misconceptions like that could easily get out of hand... or worse, be accurate just enough of the time to really cause problems."

(Continued from Refreshments Table)

Asai, having finished her food, seems to have wandered out onto the ballroom floor in order to dance with one of the illusory fish she'd created for decoration. Although the two (or one) are clearly improvising, they do a surprisingly good job at mimicking the current dance number despite one person being quadrupedal and the other being, well, finned. And no, none of the other fish are interested in dancing with anyone (nor is this one whenever Asai eventually wanders off to some other interesting distraction).
